Behind the Wall

A film by [private] (Kyrgyzstan/2009/27:21).

Domestic violence is too common for women from Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia. Women often receive little help from relatives or the police, since domestic violence is an accepted part of culture. This film follows a woman who killed her husband after being a victim of his violence. She now serves a sentence for murder in a reformatory in Kyrgyzstan, despite the fact that she has three sons, two of which are underage. This film shows how an imperfect justice system can destroy lives.
