I… Am a Woman

A film by Sheherzad Kaleem (Pakistan/2008/30:14).

A Karachi-based theater group (Tehrik-e-Niswan) is storming the streets of Pakistan with plays that challenge assumptions around education, forced marriages, and honor killings. Led by Sheema Kirmani, a headstrong and rebellious woman, Tehrik-e-Niswan seeks to make audiences engaged in the fight for women’s equal rights. The documentary showcases the work of this theater group in light of the social and historical framework of Pakistan, assesses its impact on the lives of ordinary women, and highlights the personal struggles of some of its actors.
