Inside Out

A film by Divya Cowasji and Shilpi Gulati (India/2011/14:40).

In modern Mumbai, women’s access to public space is limited and largely relegated to the sphere of purposeful errands for the family. In a truly cosmopolitan city, a woman should be allowed to exist and dress herself without the threat of sexual harassment. Will women always be implicitly policed in public? Will we be forced to endure the male gaze forever? The film shows the experiences of young Muslim women and advocates for an unfettered access to public space.
