The Herat Citadel in Afghanistan has been a seat of military power since the time of Alexander the Great, destroyed and rebuilt many times as witness and in service to warfare in the region. In 2005, it became a space for cultural exchange. Hear her reflections and see photos from her trip as she contemplates the fitting locale for a festival recognizing the resilient and innovative women of Afghanistan.
