Men Buy Sex Synopsis

Three men share three radically different experiences of paying for sex while three women lip sync to their words. A frank exploration of gender inequality that uses subverted perspectives to ask: What can their stories tell us about our society, others, and ourselves?

Men Buy Sex was an official selection of the 2017 WVN Online Film Festival.

More from the Filmmaker

The legalities around buying and selling sex have been widely debated for centuries, yet a core aspect that is often overlooked is the inherent gender inequality. The term “sex industry” implies neutrality, and betrays the very fact that the majority of those who buy sex are men and the majority of those who sell sex are women. It, therefore, seemed fitting to explore the issue of gender inequality by examining the language of entitlement subconsciously embedded in our society. Using testimonies from men about their experiences of paying for sex, Men Buy Sex is an experimental documentary that subverts our notions of gender by asking women to lip-sync to their words.
