Beyond the Lens: Empowering the Next Generation of Storytellers.
When a girl finds her voice, possibilities open up.
Beyond the Lens connects inner-city girls with caring mentors who guide, inspire, and support them every step of the way. Through storytelling, creative expression, and leadership-building, girls gain the confidence to share their stories, take charge of their futures, and make a difference in their communities.
Why Mentorship Matters.
Beyond the Lens isn’t just about learning skills — it’s about opening doors and lighting sparks of possibility.
- Guidance that inspires — someone to say, 'You belong here. Your voice matters.'
- Confidence that grows — from 'Can I really?' to 'Yes, I can.'
- A shift in identity — from outsider to creator + leader.
Research shows that young people with mentors are more likely to pursue higher education, grow in emotional well-being, and follow career paths that reflect their passions. But more than statistics, it’s about believing in the brilliance that’s already inside them.
How It Works.
Apply – Alumni and aspiring storytellers join as mentees, and mentors step up to guide the next generation of storytellers.
Match – Mentees and mentors are paired to align goals, skills, and creative spark.
Grow – Together, they explore workshops, one-on-one guidance, and a supportive community—building confidence, sharpening skills, and forming lasting connections.
Who We Are.
At Girls’ Voices Now, we believe every girl has a story worth telling. Many of our participants are inner city girls—brilliant, resilient, and full of vision—but too often without the platforms to share their voices.
Through filmmaking, mentorship, and community, we provide the tools, the guidance, and the confidence for these young women to create boldly and lead with purpose. What begins with storytelling grows into something greater: a lifelong belief that their voice matters and their vision can shape the future.
