Zero Tolerance Now: Ending FGM in 2025.
On February 6, 2025, the world observes the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)—a day to confront a practice that harms over 230 million girls and women globally. Under the urgent theme “Step Up the Pace,” this year’s focus is clear: accelerate action, unite movements, and dismantle FGM for good.

Why 2025 Demands Urgent Action.
Despite progress—7 million girls accessing protection services and 48 million pledging to abandon FGM—systemic change lags. Conflicts, inequality, and cultural norms continue to endanger girls. The 2025 theme emphasizes that incremental steps are not enough. To protect future generations, we need accelerated alliances between governments, health workers, youth, and survivors.

Progress Made, Challenges Ahead.
Since 2008, grassroots efforts have achieved:
220 million people educated via media campaigns.
12,000 organizations mobilizing communities.
112,000 frontline workers driving local change.
Yet with 4.4 million girls at risk annually, 2025 must be the year we break the cycle.
WHO’s 2025 Pledge: Health Workers as Changemakers.
Dr. Tedros stresses that healthcare systems are critical to ending FGM. In 2025, WHO will launch first-ever guidelines to:
Prevent FGM: Equip health workers to educate families.
Support survivors: Address physical/mental trauma with evidence-based care.
This initiative ensures survivors are seen, heard, and healed—while stopping FGM at its roots.
Your Role in 2025’s Turning Point.
Ending FGM requires all of us. Here’s how to act:
Speak up: Share survivor stories using #Unite2EndFGM.
Educate: Host discussions with WHO’s 2025 guidelines (launching soon!).
Donate: Fund grassroots groups protecting girls.
Attend: Join the Feb. 6 webinar to commit to action.
Final Call: 2025 Can’t Wait
FGM isn’t a “cultural issue”—it’s a violation of human rights. This February 6, let’s honor survivors by making 2025 the year we step up the pace, unite movements, and end FGM for good.
