Women’s Voices Now; (WVN) Women’s Voices Now uses film to drive social change that advances girls’ and women’s rights globally.
PROGRAMÂ
Girls’ Voices Now empowers youth from under-resourced communities to find, develop, and use their voice for social change through filmmaking. This program takes place over 5-weeks in person at Mt. St. Mary’s University, Doheny Campus, in Los Angeles, CA from June 24 – July 26th.Â
ROLE
The role of the Media Chaperone is to mentor, support, and help coordinate a production team of 3-4 youth filmmakers, as they develop, shoot, and produce a short social-change documentary. Media Chaperones will:
- Support youth filmmaking team in making a short documentary
- Support youth through each phase of the production & post-production process, assisting youth in coordinating shoot schedules, developing interview questions, reviewing footage and more. This includes serving as a chaperone on the three shoot days in the field, taking place July 18, 19, & 20.
- Keep youth on track with timeline, budget, and project deliverables.
- Share relevant personal and professional experiences and insights with participants.
- Provide individualized & group mentorship and support
- Ensure that each participant feels heard, comfortable, and included in the process.
- Act as mentor and confidante to participants, addressing concerns or issues as they arise.
- Help create a positive, collaborative, inclusive, and professional environment
- Facilitate collaborative decision-making processes for the production team.
- Help to address conflicts; escalate issues to Programs Director and Media Instructor as needed.
- Serve as a role model for participants, demonstrating professionalism & timeliness

Qualifications:
- Experience in filmmaking & production required – background in documentary filmmaking is a big plus.
- Experience working with youth, teaching filmmaking, or in education a plus.
- Must be able to improvise and maintain a positive and approachable attitude.
- Must be able and willing to adhere to policies outlined by Women’s Voices Now, maintaining professional boundaries with all youth.

Availability Required:Â
The time commitment will be 40 – 45 hours, including:Â
- Initial kick-off meeting (approx. 1 hour, scheduled between June 23-27)
Equipment and Program Training (approx 2 hours, scheduled week of June 23-June 27)
Trauma-Informed Care workshop (approx. 2 hours, scheduled week of June 23 – July 2)
Around 40 hours during the program (July 7 – Aug 1), including assisting youth filmmaking teams during shoot days, which take place over weekend of July 17-20. Then you will be leading the edit of the film with the girls, delivering the finished film by August 1.
All Media Chaperones will be subject to a background check.
The program will be held in-person at Mount Saint Mary’s University, Doheny Campus, Los Angeles, CA.
All media chaperones are encouraged to attend the premiere screening event of the documentaries, to be scheduled in fall 2025

Stipend:
Media Chaperones will receive a stipend of $2,000 for their fulfillment of the above role.
