SYNOPSIS

“All You Need Is Less” is a documentary film that unravels fast fashion’s hidden costs, from the factory floor to the For You page. Consumers don’t take into consideration the effects that trends have on the world, targeting mainly women who are more susceptible to fashion trends because of underlying societal issues.  Everything comes at a price. The future of fashion is in our hands.

MISSION

“All You Need is Less” seeks to empower young girls to rethink their relationship with fast fashion and social media, and to learn more about our unsustainable clothing consumption habits.

 

VISION

That the film moves people to break the cycle of fast fashion’s hold on young minds, and will shine a light on the disproportionate impact the fast fashion industry has on women’s lives, from the factory floor to the feed. 

 

About the Filmmakers

Adira Blades
ADIRA BLADES - All you need is less

Adira Blades is a middle school student at Tomas Starr King Middle School. Growing up in Downtown LA, she has always had an interest in how movies are made and how they work. She hopes to learn new things and make a film of her own that changes people’s lives. Adira loves to dance, specifically majorette, a type of dance style. In the future, she may want to be a nail tech or a baker.

 

Angelica Guillén
Angelica Guillén - All you need is less

Angelica Guillén is a rising Junior attending Stella High school. She is a first generation Mexican-American, who is very creative and hopes to apply her creative interests to filmmaking. She enjoys learning and her main goal at the moment is working hard towards a scholarship to support her love of education. She is in dual enrollment to graduate high school with an AA. She joined Girls’ Voices Now to get inspiration from many talented women in the film industry. She is passionate about making a social impact that inspires young women to do the same, because it is never too late to make a change.

 

Erin Dela Cruz
Erin Dela Cruz - All you need is less

Erin Dela Cruz is a rising senior at Nathaniel Narbonne High School. When’s she’s not at school pursuing her studies or participating in clubs, she spends her time on activities like reading, baking, and scrapbooking. She is constantly finding new ways to express her creative side through her illustrations, writing, and discoveries of new recipes. Growing up she has had an acute appreciation and love for the art of filmmaking. As a 2024 Girls’ Voices Now participant, she intends to strengthen her voice and confidence in filmmaking, to uplift and speak up for the voiceless.

  • Have you seen examples in the media of the harms of overconsumption, specifically in the fast fashion industry?
  • Do you think or care about where your clothes come from and where they end up after you get rid of them?

  • Have you been complicit in rampant overconsumption? How will you change your current shopping habits to address the harms of fast fashion?
  • How do you think social media plays a role in the growth of the fast fashion industry?
  • Has your perception of the fashion industry shifted after viewing the film?

  • Now that you are aware of its harmful consequences, think twice before purchasing from fast fashion brands.
  • Do your own research on sustainable alternatives, places to shop instead of fast fashion brands. Here are some examples: Depop, ThredUp, Poshmark, WearPact, Public Estrellas, Reformation, Rent The Runway
  • Organize a screening of this film to start a conversation with a friend and spread awareness about the harms of fast fashion, get that friend to start another conversation with someone else.
  • Choose an aspect of sustainable fashion that you want to be part of (Thrifting, donating, reusing, etc…).
  • Explore and find your own style outside of the latest trends.
