About DOLLY

This film is deeply personal. I’ve gathered what it took to form a story like this by reflecting on stories shared by my mother, my aunties, my classmates and friends. Though they all come from very different backgrounds and times, one thing that strung them together was this experience. The isolation, defeatedness, and the questioning of one’s identity – as put on by those pushing against us. And the triumphant moment of remembrance and reconnection. Of realignment with what truly is and who we truly are. Which is a bold, expressive, beautiful, strong, culturally rich group of people. This project serves to be a visual and emotional portrayal of those very moments.
