When was Women’s Voices Now established?

In 2010, Women’s Voices Now (WVN), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded on the idea that women’s voices and their struggle for equality around the world should be amplified, and that film can bring awareness to these issues while forming and mobilizing a community committed to action.

Voices for Change, the Women’s Voices Now Film Collection, raises awareness of the struggles and triumphs of women and girls around the globe, inviting audience members to contribute to change supportive of their rights.

These independent films have been crafted about women and girls worldwide – in many instances by women directors themselves. Our movies are available for streaming anytime, anywhere, for free

How do I submit my film to the Women’s Voices Now Film Festival?

The WVN Film Festival receives film submissions via the Film Freeway portal. The Film Festival submissions period opens in August each year. The Film Festival takes place online in April through May, with various virtual events, culminating in an awards ceremony where cash prize winners are announced. It is also where we recognize our annual Women Making Waves Awardee. The Leslie J. Sacks Grand Prize Winning film will be screened live in Los Angeles, Ca, in September of each year, and the filmmaker is invited for the screening and audience Q&A.

As of 2025, the Women’s Voices Now Film Festival has received 1500 films from 105 countries, and awarded $156,500 in cash prizes. Each year we award $13,000 in cash prizes. 


How do I apply to the Girls’ Voices Now program?

The application period for the Girls’ Voices Now program opens in late January and closes in early June each year. The application will be accessible on the Girls’ Voices Now url on our website during these months. This program empowers the next generation of youth from under-resourced communities to find, develop, and use their voice for social change through filmmaking.
