Mark Rosenberg


Mark is a UC Berkeley-educated political economist specializing in emerging and frontier markets, particularly those in sub-Saharan Africa. After completing his PhD, Mark was hired as an Africa Analyst at the political risk firm Eurasia Group. Now a director, his primary focus at Eurasia Group is Southern and sub-Saharan Africa, but his expertise covers the intersection of politics and markets throughout emerging and frontier markets.

He also helped build Freedom House's well-known democracy index and edited the organization’s flagship Freedom in the World publication and continues to serve as Southern Africa analyst. Mark is also an experienced analyst of Israel and Palestinian affairs. His op-eds have been published in The New York Times, Project Syndicate, Business Day (South Africa), The Jerusalem Post, The National Interest and The New York Sun. He is a frequent commentator for CNN and CNN International, BNN, Bloomberg News, Reuters, The Wall Street Journal, Barrons, and The Financial Times, among other outlets.

Beyond political and economic analysis, Mark is the co-founder of the technology start-up, where he led product development and served as the company’s President.
