Moms Helping Moms: Bringing Relief to Families Displaced by Wildfires

As wildfires continue to devastate southern California, countless families are left grappling with the loss of their homes and a sense of stability. Among the chaos, one mother’s compassionate initiative is creating hope and community: Lisa Conn’s Moms Helping Moms is connecting families in need with those eager to help.

From a Simple Post to a Life-Changing Network.

It all began when Conn, a Los Angeles mom, was contacted by a friend out of state who wanted to donate baby clothes to a family impacted by the fires. Conn shared the request on her Instagram stories, and within minutes, a California mom reached out for the items.

Realizing the potential to help more families, Conn quickly created a simple form for donors and recipients. Word spread like wildfire—literally.

“I made a form, and the form started getting shared all over the place,” Conn shared. “Mom groups in Nashville, New York, and Vancouver were sharing it. By the end of the first day, we had over 2,500 submissions, and now we’re at over 5,000.”

How Moms Helping Moms Works.

Moms Helping Moms focuses on direct donations, connecting those who have items to share—such as baby clothes, strollers, and diapers—with families who desperately need them.

“Direct donations are valuable to moms who do not have time to go to donation centers and sift through things,” Conn explained. “We make a match that allows the mom who’s helping to send things directly to their doorstep.”

Building a New Community Amid Loss.

Beyond providing essential supplies, the initiative fosters community among parents. Moms who connect through the network often meet in person or via video calls, forging real-life bonds during challenging times.

One mom, Marissa Williams, who recently welcomed a newborn, shared how the project changed her life after losing her home. “I lost one village and gained another,” she told NBC.

To date, Moms Helping Moms has assisted over 200 women and children displaced by the wildfires.
